I was not a fan of Michael prior to meeting him. I had heard some of his music but did not own an album; however, I must state that I was impressed by his knowledge of art and the detailed questions asked about bronze casting. His visit occured just after he had signed a 100 million dollar contract with Sony Records, with a ten million dollar signing bonus. Michael asked the price of the life size bronze figure, "Eagle Keeper." I stated "$65,000." Bill Brey asked what Michael's price would be, I reacted like an artist instead of a businessman and repeated "$65,000," then added, "I do not discount my art." Micheal left with a copy of my collector's book, "Drawing for Life" but never purchased the "Eagle Keeper" bronze. This was one of those missed opportunities in my life as an artist; to have my work bronze in the collection of the most recognized entertainer on earth. The Photograph below shows Michael looking through a display of my prints. The print on the front panel is entitled "He Thinks He's Free." "He Thinks He's Free" is a drawing of 1983 World Champion (Calf-Roping & All Around Cowboy) Roy Cooper commissioned by the Phoenix Jaycee's for the 1982 Jaycee's Rodeo of Rodeos. |
